Maybe if we sat down and spoke
You’d realize we can’t simply disagree
And I’m not apart of an agenda that’s woke
I’m a kid begging people to let me be me

Bathroom bills are starting to pass
And a military ban is again up for debate
So I don’t mean for my words to be crass
But time’s running out—we’re going to be too late

And before you demand the whole truth aghast
I’ll warn you it won’t be pleasant
My words are light compared to my past
So I understand if you remain hesitant

Knife to my neck and gun to my head
Raped because of my transition
I watched as my own body bled red
And my story is only a single addition

But it doesn’t stop there since you insisted you hear
How I sliced my own skin to stop the pain
Or how no one came to wipe my tears
Instead they played into a political game

So, take a step down from that high horse
And rethink the ideas you’re trying to enforce
No I suppose we don’t have to agree
But when God said “love thy neighbor” that included me

I spent a long time growing into my skin
And convincing myself who I am isn’t a sin
So I certainly will not apologize
And no i’m not willing to “compromise”

Next time you sit there looking down on me
Remember we can’t simply disagree
Not when my life is threatened by your ideology
I’m not the one who owes you an apology
